Assist to Caroline Sta. 200

At 1:40 on 10/18/2009 Sta. 50 was alerted on the initial dispatch to assist Caroline Sta. 200 with a odor of smoke in the residence at 22350 Hog Creek Road.  When Chief 2 (215 Milligan) arrived on location, he advised smoke showing from the attic and established Hog Creek Command.   Shortly afterwards fire blew out the 2nd floor windows.   The crews from E-54 (501 Secrist) assisted with suppression and overhaul.  The incident went to a 2nd alarm for additional equipment and manpower, which included T-53 (FF Faulkner) from Sta. 50.  Cordova units cleared the scene at approximately 04:00.  Additional photos are located in the Photo Gallery.  Thanks to Bruce Secrist for the photos.

James Morris Sr.

The Cordova Volunteer Firemen's Assoc. regrets to announce the passing of Life Member James Morris Sr.  James actively served the department for 65 years.  His dedication and service will be deeply missed.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 9 2009 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Newnam's Funeral Home in Easton.  The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 10 2009 at 11:00 am at the Queen Anne Hillsboro United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.  Interment will be at the Greenmount Cemetery.

Plane Crash

At 3:40 on October 6 , 2009 Talbot Center dispatched Stations 50, 80, and 60 for a plane crash near Lewistown Road.  Talbot County EMS and Hazmat Team were also alerted for the call.  E-85 arrived on location and 802 assumed Lewistown Road Command.  The incident involved a 4 passenger plane that crash landed in a bean field.  The sole occupant of the plane was flown by Trooper 6 to Shock Trauma.  802 transferred command to 501 when he arrived on location.  The mutual aid equipment was released and Sta. 50 equipment remained on scene for a short time until the FAA representative arrived on location.   More photos are available in the 2009 Photo Gallery.

Building Fire

At 17:27 on 9/25/2009 Stations 50, 80, and 60 were dispatched for a building fire at 30447 Skipton Cordova Road.  Engine 54 (501 Secrist) arrived on location with light smoke showing from a mobile home and established "Skipton Cordova Road Command".  The crew from E-54 entered the residence to find a small fire that had been extiguished by the occupant.  E-85 assisted with overhaul and ventilation.  All units cleared at 18:05.

Annual Country Fair

 

IMG_1053.jpgThe Cordova Vol. Firemen's Assoc. is holding its annual Country Fair on August 6-8th 2009. Bring the whole family out for food, fun, games, and rides.  Thursday night the Little Miss Cordova Contest will take place at 8:00 PM.  On Friday night, the Miss Cordova Contest will happen at 9:00 PM.   Come early to get a good seat for the parade that will start at 6:00 PM on Saturday evening.  You don't want to miss the Missed Cordova Contest at 10:00 PM on Saturday night.  Anyone wishing to be a contestant, for the any of the contests please call (410)924-5124.  Don't forget to get your chances from the company members for the many raffle prizes that will be given away at 11:00 PM on Saturday night.  Raffle Tickets are $1 each, or 6 for $5.
